What is Oak Tree Comics?Oak Tree Comics is a new independent publisher of books, comics, and graphic novels for kids and the young at heart. The company was founded by Josh "Oak Tree" Aichenbaum the summer of 2020. We strive to be socially-conscious and eco-friendly storytellers. What does that mean? We believe stories ought to make the world a better place. In the stories we tell, we love imaginaton that inspires you to take action and characters that make you care about the world around you. As a socially-conscious and eco-friendly business, we value our impact and the environment over profit. We also value self-growth. If you have suggestions for how we can improve our impact, we'd love to hear from you. Contact us here.

Where can I find or purchase Oak Tree books? We are in the process of creating our first books now! We will be sharing sneak-preview images and excerpts on Instagram and Facebook, so be sure to follow our adventures there. Our first book Do You Speak Tree? launches on Earth Day April 22nd, 2021. Thorn the Unicorn issue #1 also launches on Earth Day. Why Earth Day? At Oak Tree Comics, we love nature and view it as our responsibility to help protect the environment. Our books will be available in print and digitial formats globally. (More info about where to get your copies coming soon.) In general, we ask that you consider buying an e-book version first before acquiring your physical copy. Once you've read your e-version and know that you love the book, we would then love it if you purchased a hard copy. If you already know that you love our stories and want a physical copy right away, no need to buy the e-version first. We make this request to be eco-friendly. We like knowing that our books will end up in a loving home. Climate change is a global issue that requires large companies to change how they do business. We are a very small company, but encouraging you to think about your buying habits is one way that we hope to make a difference and help prevent waste.

Can I get permission to use images/pages from one of your books? To get permission, contact us here. Permission is dependent on the circumstance of the usage. Part of the Oak Tree mission is to encourage creativity in all forms. Too often, the arts are overlooked in school. If you'd like to use our books for educational or non-commercial purposes, we can safely say that we'd be overjoyed to hear from you! We'd love to help your class and students any way we can.

Who reads submissions? When will I hear back? We're a small company. Your submission will be seen either by our creative director (Amelia Boscov) or by Oak Tree Comics' founder and managing director (Josh "Oak Tree" Aichenbaum). Due to the size of our team, please allow us up to six months to review your project. Whether there's interest in publishing your work or not, we will get back to you. If you haven't heard from us, always feel free to check in on the status of your submission.

What do you look for in a submission? Our favorite question! STORY SUBMISSIONS For story submissions, we love imagination that inspires. Often, that might mean that the story is quite literally magical with fire-breathing trolls and dragons that hang out under bridges. But not always. As much as we love fantasy, we are interested in ALL GENRES. If told expertly, a story set in our everyday world can be even more magical and special than a story full of witches and wizards. If your characters make us care about their well-being and your story has the power to uplift, it's just the sort of story we enjoy. Make us laugh. Make us cry. Make us smile so big that our cheeks hurt. As part of our mission, generally, we also look to publish writers and artists who have unique or diverse perspectives. Too often, stories remain untold due to the prejudices of the publishing industry. We'd love to provide a platform for those voices to be heard. ART SUBMISSIONS First and foremost, we look for an imaginative mind at play. Quality work and an understanding of how to convey character emotion and narrative are crucial. An understanding of comics as a medium is also very important. Being able to speak about comics and which ones you like helps us as a team come up with a shared creative language. For all submissions, we welcome submissions from everyone, no matter your background or geographical location.
